When children play soccer with enthusiasm and at the same time learn to take responsibility for their environment, something very special is created. This is exactly what the 2026 Waldkicker tournament impressively demonstrated.
Under the motto “We are looking for Germany’s most sustainable soccer team”, around 50 youth teams in the U7 to U10 age groups got involved this season – not only on the pitch, but also beyond it. With a great deal of commitment and creativity, the teams implemented sustainable projects and proved that even small actions can have a big impact.
Whether it was tree planting campaigns, collecting garbage together or organized car pools – every initiative contributed to integrating environmental awareness into the children’s everyday lives in a playful way. In this way, the tournament became a place where not only goals counted, but also values such as responsibility, cohesion and commitment.
An unforgettable finale in Frankfurt
On May 3, 2026, the season reached its climax at Eintracht Frankfurt’s maxworx Sportpark. Eight qualified teams from all over Germany and two wildcard teams came together to show off their skills in the final round.
The atmosphere was characterized by joy, excitement and real team spirit. Every ball was fought for on the pitch, but at the same time it was clear that the focus was on fun and the shared experience. Numerous spectators off the pitch also created a special atmosphere that made this day unforgettable.

More than just soccer
The Waldkicker tournament shows how much more there is to youth soccer. It’s not just about sporting performance, but about supporting children in their development – teaching them values that last far beyond sport.
Topics such as sustainability, health and community can be made tangible and experienced in this way. Children learn through play how their actions have an impact – on their environment, on others and on the future.
